About the Organization

Development

International Nordic Walking Federation (INWA)
Nordic Walking originated in the early 1930s when Finnish cross-country skiers began using poles for summer training, recognizing the similarity between the arm movements in skiing and walking. The first documented use of poles for exercise was in 1966 by Finnish physical education teacher Leena Jääskeläinen. In the early 1990s, Finland saw a push to popularize Nordic Walking as a recreational activity, leading to the development of specially designed poles and the term "Nordic Walking." The International Nordic Walking Federation (INWA) was established in 2000 to set teaching standards and promote the sport globally. INWA committed to provide high-quality training and certification for instructors.
Nordic Walking Association of Hong Kong, China and INWA

The Nordic Walking Association of Hong Kong, China (NWAHKC) is the only recognized organization by INWA responsible for promoting and developing Nordic Walking in Hong Kong, including organizing training courses and competitions, and training leaders and instructors. Our primary mission is to promote Nordic Walking activities throughout Hong Kong while adhering to the high standards established by the International Sports Federation.
